That could be at any point from design conception and sourcing, through the pattern work, fitting and sampling stages, drafting technical specifications, on to the manufacturing process and delivery of your finished product.

With twenty years chalked up in the fashion and apparel industry. And with an extensive career in pattern drafting and design, grading, marker composition, and production management under the belt - as well as an assortment of contracts in costuming and props for film productions, theatre, and music videos; plus diverse bespoke commissions for private clients and animals alike. Rabbit and Fox was formed in the Industry, and with that comes a wealth of inside knowledge to share.
Rabbit and Fox works to international garment industry standards, using garment specific CAD software to create patterns to your specifications and fitting requirements, do your grading and make your markers. This ensures accuracy and efficiency – and let’s face it, we all love that!
We can of course also produce patterns using manual and draping techniques if required.
Drafting
Get your blocks drafted to specific body measurements and ease requirements.
Patterns can created from: Existing blocks - Existing patterns - Samples - Photographs - Sketches and Tech Packs - Or make fit edits to your existing patterns.
Grading
Your patterns can be graded using your own supplied specifications and grade rules, or we can work with you to choose from any of our time-tested grade libraries. Alternatively we can help you to figure out entirely new grades specific to your sizing requirements. Additional sizes can quickly be added in just a few mouse clicks.
Markers
Digital Markers can be made to your specified fabric width and size/quantity requirements. Keeping you and your bottom line in mind, the aim is to wrangle maximum use out of your fabric and materials, ensuring minimum wastage. Real working estimates of sampling and/or production yields (including fabric efficiancies) can be also be determined.
Delivery/Plotting/Printing
You've got a few options here, either:

Your digital garment CAD pattern files can be emailed for use by your chosen industry partner with CAD/CAM digital auto cutting facilities.

Have your working patterns or ready to cut markers plotted on continuous roll light paper.

Your patterns can be cut in heavy long life card using a specialised automated card cutter/plotter.

They can be exported to Adobe Illustrator, or/
-
They can be marked up and converted to PDF format so you can print them locally yourself.
Sampling and Production Spec Sheets
Making life easy with pattern piece and fabric cutting information exported directly from the CAD program. As well as utilising fully formulated inhouse worksheets, your specifications can be supplied or updated quickly with:

A table of grading rules and piece measurements

Construction notes, and seam type information.

Fabric yields for sampling and/or production.

Required trims and notions consumption.

Automated materials calculation with wastage allowances factored in makes ordering and unit cutting breakdowns a cinch.
Do you need detailed flats or tech drawings to accompany your style info and spec packs? We can create those for you too. What’s more, we can tack on toile/mock-up/sample cutting and making for good measure.
Tech Packs for Full Package Production
Although we would rather our clients support and help nurture our local NZ industry friends. We understand that scope can sometimes fall outside of what NZ manufacturing partners can currently offer under one roof.
Tech packs for larger offshore FPP's might contain far more detailed information than what is generally required for local CMT production - where your pattern, production management, and manufacturing works are often catered for separately, or self managed.
We offer packages in different tiers depending on the scope of the work Please enquire about which package option may best suit your needs.

Behind The Seams
Kālya Sowden is the engine behind Rabbit and Fox. Kālya's inherent ability to visualise in 3D as if an object or work is in her visual field, to picture it from any angle inside or out, mentally spin it around, pry or peel the pieces apart one by one or fit them together in order of construction, to design in vivid detail inside her mind, is her weird and rare superpower.
With a long list of creative and equally technical entrepreneurs in the family ranks - you could say it’s in my blood. Brought up on a balanced diet of eclectic music and craft, sculptor’s wax and perm solution forever burnt into the olfactory bulb. It would have been miraculous if I hadn’t become bent on a career in the creative arts. So the future was written.
Driven by curiosity, puzzle solving and the compulsion to understand how all things work. Becoming hooked on art, textile, and sewing crafts from a young age, I hatched a plan to cultivate my skills. Taking art, clothing and textiles classes, recycling and upcycling op-shop finds, and experimenting with textile manipulations. I cut my teeth drafting patterns on newspaper or adapting them from vintage sewing patterns. Then finally… the long awaited day came, and it was off to design school to study and refine. Pinning down an affinity for pattern drafting and lateral thinking early on, and success in picking up a scattering of awards along the way - including a scholarship - it was evident I was on the path to exactly where I should be.
Fast forward 20 years... I can now look back fondly on times spent working alongside some greats, including with the talented team at Wētā Workshop and a few stints working on film productions at Stone Street Studios. In-between setting up my business, systems, and attending to my fashion Industry client work, which has been many and varied. I feel I'm still where I should be, and I strive to continue learning when new practises and design challenge’s arise.
